Slovenia is a small country with lots of natural beauty in the Central Europe, eastern Alps bordering the Adriatic Sea, between Austria and Croatia . The TESOL market is also small, partly because many local people already speak good English. Generally speaking, you need to be in the country to find the work and this makes it very difficult for TESOL teachers from countries outside the EU to find work. Accommodation can be rather expensive in Ljubljana and in coastal towns.
Average Monthly Salary |
US $700 – $2500 |
Average Monthly Cost Of Living |
Moderate – accommodation, food and transport. Accommodation costs in Ljubljana are higher than elsewhere. This is reflected to a small degree in the salaries but certainly not enough to enable the average TEFL teacher to save money each month. You will almost certainly have to offer private classes in your spare time. |
Peak Hiring Times |
All year round |
Visa Requirements |
As with most countries in Europe, it is a lot easier for EU nationals to find work as the paperwork required is significantly less than when applying to employ non-EU nationals. |
